Fort 49 Krzesławice is a 19th-century stronghold of the Kraków Fortress, built 1881-1886 on the site of an earlier earthwork, designed to defend the Sandomierz road and later the rail line to Kocmyrzów. It saw combat in 1914 and was later the site of wartime executions; today the restored fort houses a youth cultural centre with the old ramparts turned into garden spots.
