Join us for the **12-Stunden LiDo Challenge** — a full-day walking challenge in Vienna on Saturday, October 10. For this hike we'll also meet up with Jörg and the members "**[Hiking Internationals Vienna](https://www.meetup.com/hiking-internationals-vienna/)**", a community with whom we share a passion for hiking and discovering new places in and around Vienna. The **12-Stunden LiDo Challenge** is an annual walking challenge organized by the Mobilitätsagentur Wien, taking place for the fourth time this year. **LiDo (Links der Donau)** follows a signposted 50 km loop around Vienna’s two districts on the left bank of the Danube: Floridsdorf and Donaustadt. The route covers around **50 km**, but you decide how far and how long you want to walk. The challenge runs from **08:00 to 20:00** and passes **twelve stamp stations** along the route, where participants can pick up their personal stamp passport. Collect just three stamps and you can claim some great goodies from the organizers. We’ll spend the day walking through Vienna, combining urban paths, green spaces, quieter trails and familiar parts of the city from a different perspective. Look forward to a varied route: from the **Donauinsel** recreational oasis, along the idyllic **Marchfeld Canal**, all the way up to the **Bisamberg** with its impressive views over Vienna. The trail then continues along the northern city limits, past small and large residential areas, to **Süßenbrunn** and into the **Norbert-Scheed-Wald**. This is also a great opportunity to join us if you haven’t attended an Adventure Hikers Vienna hike before. You don’t need to be an experienced mountain hiker — simply choose a distance that feels appropriate for you and come along for as much of the challenge as you’d like. **Please note:** this is an existing public event organized by the **Mobilitätsagentur Wien**. Adventure Hikers Vienna is **joining the challenge as a group, but we are not the organizers of the event**. We’ll use the day as an opportunity to walk together, meet fellow Adventure Hikers, and introduce new people to our community. **🌄 WHAT TO EXPECT** After a round of introductions in front of the **Donauinsel lighthouse**, next to the **Donauinsel (U1) metro station**, we’ll start the LiDo Walking Challenge at the nearby **#12 – Reichsbrücke stamp station**, where we’ll collect our personal stamp passports before continuing clockwise along the course. We’ll aim to maintain a steady pace of around **4.5–5 km/h**, which would allow us to complete the full 50 km loop within the 12-hour challenge window. However, **you can choose your preferred distance and decide how far you want to go** — feel free to leave the group once you’ve reached your personal target. The highlights along the course include: • A full-day walking challenge in Vienna 🚶 • Donauinsel recreational oasis 🌿 • Idyllic Marchfeld Canal 🌊 • Bisamberg and panoramic views over Vienna 🏞️ • Northern city limits and Vienna’s outskirts 🚶 • A mix of urban paths, green spaces and quieter trails 🌳 • Süßenbrunn and surrounding residential areas 🏘️ • Norbert-Scheed-Wald 🌲 • A varied route exploring Vienna from a different perspective 🌆 • An pportunity to meet fellow Adventure Hikers 🤝 • A chance to discover what Adventure Hikers Vienna is about 🏔️ • The opportunity to meet both regulars and new members 👋 • A challenge you can adapt to your own fitness level 💪 • Plenty of time outdoors and on your feet 🌿 📊 **HIKE DETAILS** Up to 50 km \| \+240 m \| \-240 m Technical difficulty (T-grade): T1 (easy) Physical difficulty: Flexible — choose your own distance **🤔 FITNESS REQUIREMENTS: FLEXIBLE 🔵** This challenge is designed to be inclusive, and you do not need to be able to complete the full 50 km to participate. Choose a distance that matches your current fitness and experience — whether that means a shorter walk, 20–30 km, 40 km or the full 50 km challenge. The longer distances require a good level of endurance and experience with spending many hours on your feet. If you are unsure which distance is appropriate for you, feel free to choose a more conservative distance — there is no need to push beyond what you are comfortable with. **🗺️ ROUTE** The planned hiking route can be viewed on Komoot here: [https://www.komoot.com/tour/1695282853](https://www.komoot.com/tour/1695282853) The planned hiking route can be viewed on Google Maps here: [https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1pDesMC3HB0o_3KgOZvEv3B4o3v85kvM&usp=sharing](https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1pDesMC3HB0o_3KgOZvEv3B4o3v85kvM&usp=sharing) **📍 MEETING & LOGISTICS** Meeting point: in front of Donauinsel lighthouse, next to Donauinsel (U1) metro station Meeting time: 07:40 Hike start: #12 – Reichsbrücke stamp station Hike finish: #12 – Reichsbrücke stamp station (for 50 km route) **🧳 WHAT TO BRING** Please pack lightly, but dress for the weather. · 🥾 Comfortable walking or hiking footwear · 👕 Weather-appropriate clothing (layers) · 🌧️ Rain protection (jacket and/or rain pants) · 🕶️ Sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, cap) · 🎒 A comfortable backpack · 💧 Water (numerous refill points along the way) · 🍎 Plenty of carbohydrate-rich snacks & lunch · 🔋 A fully charged mobile phone, power bank · 🩹 First-aid kit and blister bandages · 💶 Cash and ID · 🥢 Hiking poles (optional) **⚠️ PARTICIPATION & RESPONSIBILITY** This is a casual, self-organized hike.
