Be bold, be playful, be teasing, be extremely sexy ravy, be fetish - just make it intentional.  We're more relaxed about footwear, but please don't wear your worn-out stuff, strange hiking boots, sandals etc. Choose shoes that complete your outfit and become part of the overall look - if you consider this wisely, sneakers may be totally fine.
