Lifespeed presents 'Pop Life': A night dedicated to Prince

Prekladám do slovenčiny…

Those who have been following our previous events for a while might be surprised that we’re dedicating a night to a 20th century artist. However, we have always been interested in the future of pop music, and Prince in his time was one of the most forward-looking pop musicians of all time and we would like to use this opportunity of marking 10 years since his passing to celebrate the music of Prince, his contemporaries & collaborators, and the music he influenced. If you want an example of how futuristic his music always sounded, take a quick listen to a song such as ‚Make Up‘ which plays not only with similar lyrical themes but also a similar industrial production as SOPHIE’s ‚Faceshopping‘, despite being recorded nearly 40 YEARS prior. The way Prince played with androgyny and identity (e.g. on the Camille project) remains fascinating and has been covered by scholars such as Sasha Geffen in the 2020’s book ‚Glitter up the dark‘. Just recently I heard a reference to the opening lines of ‚I Would Die 4 U‘ „I’m not a woman, I’m not a man. I am something that you’ll never understand“ in a Big Thief song. Nearly 10 years ago I failed to procure tickets to an all night ‚Moodyman plays Prince‘ party at Porgy & Bess before it was sold out, this October we want to do it ourselves! The party takes place 25. October all night as part of the Gürtel Connection. If you want to DJ some your personal favorite Prince songs as well, feel free to reach out to us via DM! It’s gonna be a beautiful night! Genres: Disco, Funk / Soul
