Title: Preserving symmetry for Brownian hydrodynamics: an energy-based numerical approach Abstract: The motion of microscopic particles in viscous fluids underlies many phenomena in active and soft matter. At these scales, fluid motion is governed by the Stokes equations: each particle disturbs the fluid and thereby influences the motion of all the others. Thermal fluctuations introduce a further challenge: the probability distribution of particle configurations evolves according to the Smoluchowski equation, in which hydrodynamic interactions determine both drift and diffusion.
